Specifically in educational settings, not many studies have been conducted on accent bias in Flanders. Nevertheless, Flemish education is characterised by great linguistic diversity, both in terms of foreign accent variation and regional accent variation. Accents can also contribute to discrimination. Accent discrimination could lead to inequality in education and must therefore be avoided. Using questionnaires and speaker evaluation experiments, I want to investigate whether pupils and students feel discriminated against because of their accent and whether teachers and lecturers rate pupils and students with certain accents lower.
