IOM – UN Migration is part of the United Nations (UN) system and is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM support migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration, and, as such, is a key source of advice on migration policy and practice. IOM established its operations in Belgium in 1973 and has since been supporting the Belgian government at all levels, civil society and migrants through its Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme, resettlement, labour mobility, social inclusion programming, housing, diaspora engagement, and emergency response.
Through the participation in the events of CESSMIR and its advisory group, IOM contributes to shaping inclusive research agendas and fostering nuanced policy dialogue on migration, while supporting CESSMIR’s efforts to highlight the societal impact of migration in support of the public debate on the topic.
