“Psychological costs of migration policies are underestimated” – Radio 1, De Ochtend

The psychological costs of migration do not receive sufficient attention in Belgian migration policies. CESSMIR-Colleague, Ilse Derluyn (Department of Social Work & Pedagogy) advocates for more psychological support in asylum reception centers, explains that in a stressful environment, it becomes much more difficult to find a job or to learn Dutch.

She warns us that psychological problems obstruct newcomers’ integration trajectories, and urges politicians and policy makers to make this a priority.
