Back to School: Education and Wellbeing of Newcomer Students in Denmark and England

  • Promotors: Ilse Derluyn
  • Faculties: Faculteit Psychologie en Pedagogische Wetenschappen
  • Period: 2022 – 2027
  • Themes: Children, youth and families, Education and training, Health, health care and psychosocial well-being
The project considers wellbeing support for refugee and migrant secondary school students (“newcomers”) in Denmark and England. Through interviews and focus groups with school personnel (principals, teachers, support staff), we aim to understand educators’ perspectives on wellbeing and how this is enacted in the classroom with newcomer students. In addition, through focus groups with newcomer students themselves, we seek to learn about their experiences of wellbeing at school and relationships with teachers. Through engagement with these perspectives, best practices can begin to be identified.
